[b]Nalinaksha Bhattacharya[/b] is an Indian writer and public official, based in New Delhi. Nalinaksha Bhattacharya was born on April 2, 1949, in Ballygunge, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He is the son of C. K. and Indulekha Bhattacharya. Bhattacharya attended Brojomohun College in Barisal (now Bangladesh) from 1961 to 1964 and Dum Dum Motijhell College from 1964 to 1965. He also attended Scottish Church College from 1965 to 1968 and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Calcutta University. In 1986 and 1987, he also participated in London School of Journalism correspondence course in short story writing. Bhattacharya started his career, working as a proofreader of ophthalmic journals at the National Society for the Prevention of Blindness in New Delhi, India in 1972 and 1973. He then became an assistant at Directorate of Estates, Ministry of Works & Housing in New Delhi, holding that position till 1981. From 1981 to 1985, he worked as a section officer at the Ministry of Agriculture in New Delhi and then held the same position at the Ministry of Environment & Forests. Since 1994, Bhattacharya works as an undersecretary there. Nalinaksha Bhattacharya is the best known as a novelist. He is the author of such works as Hem and Football, Hem and Maxine, A Fistful of Desire and Sisters and Lovers.
